the week that we've been here has flown by, but it also feels like i've been here longer than a week.it's been so amazing to be with the kids yet so frustrating because i know that even though we make them so happy we're not drastically changing their lives. their families are still struggling to put food on the table. they might still leave school early to get a job. they still live in cement houses on unpaved roads.
today one of the spanish speakers on the trip helped eliza with the workshop and i had her read it to me after. she had to sound out all the words and struggled on some but when she finished she was just beaming. i was so happy and so sad at the same time because i cant guarantee she'll have people giving her the attention and encouragement she needs to work hard for her education.
